Recognizing warning signs, preparing for assessment, and choosing the appropriate route for seeking care
Emergency medicine focuses on assessing and stabilizing acute problems. These points are not for self-diagnosis; do not delay calling 115 in life-threatening situations or with severe symptoms.

Have ready the time symptoms began, medicines, allergies, underlying conditions, relevant test results or documents, and a description of any possible incident or exposure.
