When should you take seeking care more seriously?
Some neurological symptoms may require urgent care; avoid self-treatment or waiting when symptoms are sudden.
- Sudden, very severe headache — If a headache is sudden, unusual, or accompanied by altered consciousness, weakness, seizures, or speech difficulty, call 115 immediately.
- Sudden weakness or numbness — Facial drooping, one-sided weakness, speech difficulty, or balance problems may be an emergency and require an immediate call to 115.
- Loss of bladder or bowel control — When accompanied by progressive leg weakness or numbness in the area between the legs, it requires urgent medical evaluation.
